Shades Of Quiet

There are different kinds of quiet that I relish.

There is the still kind of quiet in the deep of the night when your part of the world is asleep.

There is the hushed kind of quiet in the library when everyone is lost in a book.

There is the whispery kind of quiet when you are walking among trees.

There is the immersive kind of quiet when you are untangling a thought.

There is the reverent kind of quiet exclusive to expansive spaces.

There is the carefree kind of quiet when you are alone in the house.

There is the therapeutic kind of quiet when you trail a pond of fish.

There is the divine kind of quiet as dawn breaks over the horizon.

There is the whimsical kind of quiet when you are adrift in a daydream.

But the best kind of quiet is the easy kind of quiet that syncs up among friends.

What is your favourite kind of quiet?

Wonderful piece. Appreciate your sensitivity to nuances of quiet. I like them all. I see them as creative modulations of that pure unconditioned quietness of being that has no words yet is infinitely eloquent—that profound quiet where and when everything stops, time and space melt away, and an unprecedented aliveness shines without self or centre.

You nail the core of quietness so eloquently! I think it is a shame that a lot of people are afraid of the quiet and feel the compulsion to fill the space up with noise. Really love how quiet can suspend us in the moment and you are at peace with yourself and the world.
