I took this photograph a while back. It sat languishing in a folder somewhere, along with the thousands of other photographs that I had taken over the years, marked as not being presentable enough to be shared. I had scrolled past it many times while looking for something else but never gave it more than a cursory glance.
And then last week, something made me pause when I got to it. And for the first time in a long time, I looked – really looked – at the picture. I had never before noticed the way sunlight filtered through the trees and flooded the background. Or appreciated the balance of the composition. Or how this scene fills my heart with so much light, it makes me smile.
So, I dusted it out, put it through some colour edits and am sharing it publicly.
What had changed? The picture is still the same one I had taken a while ago, one that I initially thought was a big hot mess. The only difference is that time had passed and I had grown and come to a point in my life where I could finally recognise its beauty.
So, to whoever needs to hear it today, I hope this post finds you. Keep showing up. Keep putting in the work that you’ve been putting in, keep learning, keep growing. I know it’s hard because sometimes it feels like you are never going to get that break. However, know this. You are already amazing. The rest of the world just needs a little time to catch up and see that too.
