One Train, Two Train

One morning, I caught myself lifting my gaze to look at the tracks upon hearing the tell-tale rumbling of an oncoming train. I suddenly realised that I do this every time a train passed overhead and it dawned on me then that I actually enjoy watching them go by. Maybe it’s because trains have been a staple of animes and that the gorgeous animation subconsciously influenced my fascination with them. I would catch a glimpse of the commuters and in my mind, they are going to school or heading off to work like in a Makoto Shinkai film. Cue the scenic backdrop and orchestral music.

My favourite part hands down is when the trains head back to the depot at the end of the day. They would come in one by one in an orderly manner and park in their designated spots. It is like a children’s bedtime story where all the trains are tucked in for the night. I would imagine a kindly conductor walking among them, doing his nightly rounds. He would stop by each train, pat them and tell them, well done.

Good night, Little Train.

Good night
