Before I Forget

My dad has dementia. He finds it challenging to perform some spatial functions and complex tasks. Largely, though, it’s him being forgetful. He doesn’t remember where he puts his keys, he can’t remember what he had for lunch and on occasions, he can’t find his way back home.
In the last few months, he finds gadgets confusing. Half the time, he can’t figure out how to work his phone. If I wanted to send him a photo or a short message via text, I would send it to my sibling who would then pass it along to him.
This year on my birthday, I woke up in the morning to find a blank text from him. I know it’s his way of sending me a birthday wish but he’s forgotten how to do it right.
It was the best birthday present ever.
